I moved through the obstacles, a focused gaze in my eyes as if I was gazing into another reality from this one. The right of speed wasn't one of inheritance. To take something was to make it your own by force and that's what I would do. My dream, to be a runner on a world level, to apart of the Olympics and become a runner that no one could catch. For now, I was my own person. I was a sprinter in Kyoudou High School.
I placed both my hands towards my knees as I slunk forward sweating profusely. It'd been thirty minutes since I started my practice and training, and thus I had gotten tired. My stamina was top class but I was only human, running out of stamina after straight training for such a period of time hadn't been unheard of. I needed to gather my own speed, my own talent and placed it forward. Take my soul, speed, take my world.
After three minutes of rest, I began to stretch outward my legs so that I could keep my "heat", gathering my strength through flexibility with my hands going towards my legs sliding forward. I was flexible, pressing forward, greater and greater. I sighed inward deeply, it was such a strenuous thing to stretch, but it was a necessary evil. My muscles needed to stretch, gather strength, grow stronger... I needed more speed. More and more...
Rotating my arms as I moved my head in a rotation back and forth, I closed my eyes. Moving to the starting line of the track, I bent my body once more. Taking my time to gather my strength, pushing my fingers against the hard floor, I readied myself pushing my legs upward my eyes were still closed. Readying, pushing, inhaling, exhaling. Then, that sound went off in my mind, the release of the trigger. Like a horse from a stable. I went forth with great speed.
Jettisoning forward, I was in a world of my own, my speed and reflexes fast my mouth closed and my eyes forward breathing from my nose. The blurred line as I followed the tracks path. I began to become faster after every step picking up the pace. I needed to work on my acceleration more. My steps became faster, my body leaned forward more. Like poetry in motion, as if my instincts had told me all without any need of signals. This was called body memorization. I revved through the track. A blur, smoke releasing from my steps bending my legs further as I crossed the finish line, sliding against the ground.
I gasped exhaling and inhaling once again, closing my eyes, stretching outward as I pushed my hands against my shoes, stopping for a moment wagging my legs. I silently watched my legs and patted them left to right. Smiling silently, I looked towards what would be someone I didn't notice. "Hm?" I told myself in surprise.

There! Yes, exactly. And... focus.... click!" Mayumi whispered. She hovered behind the bleachers, lay in the grass, even climbed a tree as her camera pointed at the runner from all angles and perspectives. She scrambled from place to place, lying low so the boy didn't see her and stop running. She smiled, whispering a quiet, "Click" every time the shutter closed over the lenses. She had no idea who this boy was. However, Mayumi guessed that he was probably from Kyodo High School. She'd never seen runners from Izumi Chou, but they probably had nice uniforms that they liked to practice in. Mayumi paused for a moment, sighing. Ah, the luxury of being rich. All that soft, flexible fabric probably felt so nice...
But wait! The runner was stopping. Mayumi scrambled out from under a hurdle, trying to get a shot of his face showing the emotion one felt after such an intense run. Instead, he turned to her -- the boy had seen her! She quickly stood, dusting off the grass that clung to her clothes, and ran towards him.
"Hey! Hi, sir!" she called out, waving. She came to a stop in front of him, smiling. "Sorry I was taking pictures of you. I'm an amateur photographer, and I was trying to capture your movement and emotion. But, yeah." She scratched the back of her head. "I'll totally delete them if you want me to, sir. I'm Mayumi, by the way. Mayumi Matsu." She didn't like using her full name anyway. After fiddling with her camera for a moment, she held out her right hand for him to shake, and her left hand with the camera so he could see the terrific photo she had taken, a way of asking approval for her to take it.

"Hm... some type of on-looker? Geez just getting into this school and we already have a paparazzi, hehe." I said as I scratched the back of my head, she came towards me speaking with some sort of nervous voice, as I watched her body language. I didn't really know what the big deal was though. I was just a runner... though maybe that came with the package.
"I'm not sir first off, don't need to be so formal sheesh, not like I'm one of those stick up their ass students who needs to be honored to be special. Just call me Chisoku, or Chi if ya want." I crossed both my arms as I furrowed my right eyebrow, I showed a wide smile, comfortable and casual. Didn't much care if it would be the ambassador of the world or some small kid that came from the dirt. I was always formal. "You took pictures of me, how evil! How cruel!" My voice was sarcastic as I laughed patting my chest, holding onto it as I chuckled at her.
"No, you can keep them if you want just don't be so formal next time, I'm always either here training or going out for a run across the town, so it's not that much of a big deal." I press my thumb against my nose, now I grinned my teeth. I shook her hand. "Cute name, I'm Chisoku Soratobu... so Mayumi, what was the picture you took of me. If you want I can pose or run for ya, I'm a bit sweaty but..." I watched the picture for a moment blinking, I'd never known how I looked while running, I could have looked like some type of crazed maniac or whatever.
My eyes scanned the picture and I was surprised, I had a tremendous amount of intensity on my face with my running... It scared me a bit but not by much. "Wow, you got some Skill, Mayu, really good talent, you got the angles just right." I press my hand against hers though not on purpose but just through closer contact with her. I watched the pictures scanning with my thumb against the button. I nodded my head as I ended up with a satisfied and cool smile.
"I can do another run for you." I said rubbing the back of my head. "No need to worry, I heard when you force shit to happen, pictures don't go well. It'll be all natural and wouldn't it help you to gain whatever story you need to make." I pressed my shoulders upward shrugging. "What do you say?" I started to stretch my right arm clenching the entirety of it with my left to get the maximum stretching power. I then began to turn away from her looking at my feat, starting to stretch my legs now, through way of outwardly pushing my legs, and stretching making a sort of pyramid shape.

Believe it or not, this wasn't the first time she had been in this situation. She didn't really care enough about what people thought about her, at least as far as photography was concerned. She nodded when he told her he wasn't 'sir.' "Sorry, I always do that sir-er. Chi," she said cheerfully as he laughed at her. She wasn't a fan of sarcasm, but each to his own.
"Formal?" she repeated. This time it was her that was laughing. "Oh, I'm not being formal. It's just something I like to do to keep things fresh. But thanks for being okay with the pictures."
When he said that she could take pictures of him, she grinned. Most people were camera-shy... at least teenagers and adults were. She held the camera with both hands as he scanned through it, obviously impressed. "I'm glad you like it!" She had to stop herself from calling him sir. "But it's Mayumi. Or Yumi." She smiled. "I'm kinda picky about my name. I know it's weird but that's the way it is." She shrugged.
"But I'm totally up for a photoshoot," she added, whirling the camera around as she jumped to different angles and pretended to take pictures. "I like taking spontaneous photos, but if you run, I'll go on the ground and get you like you're running at me! That'll be cool!" she said. As he stretched, she ran over to a part of the track, squatting just over the ground. "I'm ready!" she called.

Surprisingly, she seemed to be less nervous than before? Was she planning this or something, she was a pretty crafty girl if she was. As I stopped my stretching, I blinked at her for a moment. "Running towards you, hm... I think I can handle that." Starting to walk away now as I calmed myself my eyes closed, I took my time striding forward. 'Mayumi... or Yumi, eh?' I thought for several moments closing my eyes with a grin on my face.
Taking stride upon stride over and over, as the wind blew against my body and hair waving in the sun and sky. I stopped abruptly, turning towards her. I pressed both my hands hit against the ground for showing that I was excited towards that end. Then with a change in demeanor my eyes came towards her now. This change sparked by me clenching my fists and breathing from my nostrils stepping with my right foot behind me, bending my left leg forward, pushing as my hands went against the ground.
Slowly, a tick went off in my head signaling a countdown. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick... She said she was ready as the tension built inside me. A collision of my own reaction and the ticking of my mind made my legs move. Muscle movement once more. My face towards the camera, my body moving in rapid strikes towards her. I was serious, I showed that brilliant essence of me as a true runner, someone who took his running ability seriously without fail. My feet shuffled, gaining speed further and further.
I wasn't worried about the picture, nor was I worried for how I looked, doing this for so long. It was natural. My face was natural, my eyes were natural. Fierce. Determined. That was my essence. That to me was the essence of true sprinter. For with no spirit, there was nothing but angst and corruption. Speed was pure. And no one could take that away from me.
I stopped abruptly, only inches away from falling forward towards her. Sweating, my eyes were burning, my face was serious, and my mind was clear as I stared into her eyes. Slowly, my eyes came back to normal. "So how did I do?" I asked her with a large grin on my face. "Did you get the picture that you wanted or whatever?" I scratched the back of my head with a chuckle.
"I didn't try to force it." I snuffed and began to run in place stepping away from her. "If you need another just ask me." I said now walking back to get my training back to optimum.

She wished she had one of those fancy ones with the multiple lenses, but those were probably worth more than her father made in half a year.
She wondered why he was so willing to help her take photographs. Was it that he liked the attention, or that he genuinely wanted her to have fun with what she was doing? She shrugged to herself, not really caring. Whatever it was, it was good for her, so she didn't mind.
When he was ready, he ran towards her, and she clicked the camera away. She was a little disappointed when he stopped a few inches from her, and she grimaced a little before sticking her tongue out at him jokingly. "You could have kept on running, just right by me," she said, grinning. She flipped through the new photos in her camera. "But I like them anyway. Thanks!" She waved as he went away to continue training. Now she needed to find something else to take pictures of. After all, there was nothing to do and no one at home. "Bye!" she called. [/style][/style] |

I rotated my left arm as I looked back towards her and blinked. She was an odd one indeed, I was trying to scare her a bit with running completely in front of her. But she seemed to not fear me running towards her she didn't flinch, so slowly he watched her gather the evidence that she needed for her photography. She was interesting to me to say the least.
I began to think for a moment, trying to understand what should I do? Should I really just let her go like that or... maybe get to know her better. Either way, my eyes came towards her body for a second. I nodded to myself. maybe I should do it. Take a chance and try her out. She sure wasn't someone who was normal. So that's what was agreed upon in my head...
As she began to walk away I had began to take my things, gathering my bag after she said bye. Stuffing my bad full of my jacket as I started to run towards her once again. My legs moved quickly to catch up from such a length. I stopped by her with a smile. "You're interesting you know... do you want to go grab a bite or something." Deciding to get to know her better was my aim. She was someone I'd never met before, was she new to Kyodo or something?

She turned, tilting her head to the side as she waited for him to catch up. I wonder what he wants, she thought. He smiled, so of course she smiled back.
The smile quickly faded before she forced it back again. She couldn't afford getting a bite or something. Her and her father struggled to get food every day. Every scrap of extra money she had was spent on batteries, anyway. But Mayumi didn't like sharing this fact. She wasn't ashamed of her poverty or anything, but she didn't like bringing it up. She was a little uncomfortable when people felt sorry for her. So instead, Mayumi grinned. "Only if you're paying," she said cheerfully. She winked. "I don't have any money on me right now." She waited, willing to follow him to a place if he agreed. After all, she liked talking and free food.

She seemed to have to contemplate this, and with my quick eyes I saw her frown start to show and then come back once more. Was there something wrong with my request on companionship with her? I'd have to contemplate it later as well. But who knows, maybe she just didn't like hanging out. Lots of girls didn't like hanging out with guys they didn't know. So I'd take it one step at a time...
"Of course I'm paying, that's silly! The guy always pays for the lady if he asks for an outing right? Common courtesy." My body was in front of hers as I started to walk backwards placing my hands across my head. I smiled widely showing a gleeful impression. Which is what I always showed, even if it was a small smirk or some type of effort to bring comfort towards those around me. I was sometimes known as the "grinning moron".
"I'll take you to a good place, since in the mornings I usually do paper routes and save my money... hell, I live in my own apartment so I have full say on my money." It was true I got the advantage of living by myself since as long as I kept my grades up to at least C's, and kept myself out of trouble I'd be fine. My parents lived in Ehime, anyway.
"Anyway, where do you want to go. Just don't break my yen, and it won't be a problem." It wasn't necessarily bad to go somewhere where she'd like. I didn't really care much for things like television since I was usually out training or with friends so I saved a bundle of money. And since I liked fruits to eat which usually had a great deal of nutrients in them and a few portions of meat. "Though I gotta tell you I hate sushi, so if we go to a sushi place you're getting the plate I'll have a glass of water or something." I waved my hand.
Maybe I was talking too much, I chuckled embarrassed at myself. "I'm talking to myself, tell me about who you are Mayumi." My body was relaxed, I asked her with a calm notion, and strong confidence. "Like where do you live around here, and why I haven't seen you around school before."

"Cool!" she said cheerfully, giving him a thumbs-up. "Thanks!" She followed him as he walked backwards, returning his smile. She liked cheerful people.
"You live in your own apartment?" she asked, tilting her head. "Why?" Maybe it was a little rude, but Mayumi usually didn't follow the rules of common courtesy (even if Chi did and they meant that he would pay for her food).
"I like any kind of food!" she declared cheerfully. "Even sushi," she added, grinning mischievously. "But don't worry, I'm not in the mood for sushi. Just pick a place, and I'll come with you."
He wasn't talking to himself. He was talking to her, Mayumi thought, a little puzzled. Then again, she knew sometimes people said these nonsensical things about themselves when they felt self-conscious. She shrugged. "Me? You don't want to know about me," she said. "I like to take pictures and watch fish and I'm always hungry." She didn't add that it was because she sometimes didn't have food, but she didn't let that show in her eyes. "I live around here, in some old apartment with my dad. He's a construction worker. I work at a book shop in the mall. What about you? What do you do besides running and going to school?"

"Why? No particular reason, my parents just said that I had a greater deal of being caught by an agent in Kyodo instead of somewhere around the Ehime... so they decided to place me here, I've been here since last year and for now haven't gotten in trouble." I watched her for a moment. "And my parents said that they'd only give me a low rented place, small yet cozy it's good enough to be considered a place to live, or a closet." With that I began to laugh. "As long as I can run and I ain't restricted by severe rules, I'll live anywhere."
"I see, I see..." I said this as she said she liked sushi, I sighed until she said she didn't want any. Showing a happier face than before now, I chuckled once more. "I guess we can go to that new ramen place, what was it called? Ichiraku Ramen?" I blinked and scratched my chin with my index and thumb. "I hear the guy makes it top quality and fresh, and that it doesn't taste like its from the vendor. And the bowls are so huge! So you get your fill!" I tsked twice. "I've never been there once, but I guess now is a good time to try it, with a beautiful girl with me." With a nonchalant saying, I expressed my words openly.
"I don't?" Asking her in a question, my eyebrow furrowed. "Non-sense, everyone has something special about them, even if it's something small good or evil, everyone has their own special talent in this world that they've been perfecting, even if they never noticed it. Obviously the way you shot that camera you have skills in photography and what not, I think I'm a fast runner, though I need to work harder." I expressed sighing deeply, rubbing my neck with my right hand.
"No ones just trash unless they make themselves out to be, if you work hard in this world you can do anything!" I quickly placed both my arms on her shoulders. "So try it, smile at yourself for trying, and always say you'll do better." I watched her eyes deeply. "Believing in yourself is what comes first though, trusting in your own arms is the very best you can do!" I nodded twice.
Slowly turning forward now, I placed my arms back on my head. "Parkour, running, dating, normal stuff... just give me action and I'll usually follow you." With that I sighed. "But there hasn't been much action except for our school getting destroyed, this place seems pretty boring, I mean I can free-run but..." I sighed.

She had no idea that parents sent high schoolers off to find agent. And Chi looked rather young, definitely not a senior going off to college next year. "An agent for running? What are you planning on doing?" she asked. "And how old are you? I mean if it's for college, it's a little early, don't you think?"
It was strange, choosing to live in a small apartment all alone. Mayumi would take advantage of however much money she had and whoever she had with her. She didn't like rules, but just because they were there didn't mean she had to follow them. "Were the rules too strict with your parents or something?" she asked.
Chi really seemed like he hated sushi. "I haven't heard of any new ramen place. But it sounds cool," she said. She was cheered even more when he mentioned how large the bowls of ramen are, and she smiled when he called her beautiful and complimented her photography. "Thanks!" she said happily.
"So are you super competitive or something?" she asked. "I mean, you're already very fast." Mayumi had talent, but she never compared herself to other people. She just tried to work hard.
"Um." She giggled when he put his hands on her shoulders and tried to encourage her. When he was done she simply burst out laughing. "I never said I was trash or that I didn't believe in myself," she said. She wasn't making fun of her, just laughing because of the misunderstanding.
She followed him as he continued walking. "What's free-running? I've never heard of it before."

"I'm planning on taking on the world..." I open my arms as I watched the sky with a hapless glee. "One day, I'm gonna run in the Olympics... and become the fastest person alive." It was a high dream, some would say the craziest dream that was ever wrought. "There's nothing better than training to be the best that ever was, it feels like as I walk forward... steps closer, steps closer." My body twists forward as I walked straight moving to her side. "I stride further and faster, move greater and greater, always so exhilarating."
Abruptly, due to the feeling in my body, I got antsy as I burst forth with energy. I started to run towards a nearby wall. Using both my hands I lifted my body quickly rolling on the roof with a quick succession of body movements. "To fly higher, to move faster, to reach that everlasting sky... my legs are my wings and this paved road..." I walked against the side, whimsically not afraid of falling. "It's my dream." A bit Casanova for myself but, I couldn't help it. With strong legs I leaped off the roof flipping and somersaulting off as I caught my feet against he ground pushing off as I landed.
"It's never too early to start dreaming." A slow and gathering grin showed on my face, brightening forth as I chuckled my teeth showing. "Super competitive? Yeah I probably am too competitive, I practice daily and try my best just like any other good athlete so I don't mind challenges." Crossing my arms and intertwining them my eyes now closing as I sighed. "I'm not fast enough, if I didn't train I'd be belittling the effectiveness of my those who also have this dream." Now I was watching her once again, taking my eyes into a serious look.
"Me and a few million or billion or whatever the amount, sprinters want the same thing. You can never allow yourself to think you're better than anyone else unless you placed the time and effort into doing so." I was sounding far too serious right now, a nervous chuckle exited my lips after staring at her for a moment. "Sorry sometimes I get a bit overcome when I talk about running." Now I scratched the top of my head.
"I know you didn't say it, but your voice sounded so unassuming of yourself. What do you want to accomplish and how? You have to work at it... like that camera, to become the best you have to use it at many angles, you have to be in the right spots and understand how to take the most dramatic effective pictures to catch peoples spirits the best right?" I blink as I walk forward, it felt like we were walking for seconds with all this progression, but in actuality we were walking for minutes now. "Be the best at whatever you want, but never say that you can't be it, it just takes time..." It was nothing to snuff at, during the whole impact of words, I was being as serious as possible in what I was saying.
My eyebrows raised, as I laughed at her. "You've never heard of free-running? Seriously?!" It was something different about someone who didn't understand free-running. I looked towards one of the home gates at the sides of the pathway and lifted myself off the ground with a leap catching myself on the wall pushing off with my legs towards it walking at the top of the gate.
"Free-running is when you move around a landscape, obstacle course, or anything in between by pure agility, instincts and technique. It takes a lot of practice but if you practice it, you gain lots of arms, legs, and reaction growth due to the agility needed to complete the more complex obstacles." I bent my entire body downward catching both my hands against the graveled rock of the gated stand. Now I was on both my arms as my legs were high in the air, my shirt falling as my bare chest could be seen and my legs standing straight up.
"I've been doing this since I was six, gotten hurt a few times but I've gotten better at it." I kept moving, my hands going slowly across the gravel as I stayed on track with her as he talked.

"Wow, you're a dreamer," she said cheerfully. "Nice dreams. If it means anything, I think you'll make it." She clapped when he did the trick on the building, laughing. "Nice!" she called out.
Of course, she was also thinking of how interesting it would be to photograph. But he was moving so quickly, and doing things so unexpected, that she wondered if even she would be able to keep up with him. After all, she didn't have one of those super-expensive cameras. Anyway, she was talking to him now. She wouldn't interrupt with her camera.
"But overexcited is interesting," Mayumi pointed out. She paused. "How did you become interested in running in the first place?"
"What do I want to accomplish?" She tilted her head to the side and then laughed. "Nothing really. I'd just like to graduate high school and be able to put a roof over my head in a year or two. Maybe afford some nice camera." It was simple to her, probably because she had started out so low. Where a lot of people were at know was where Mayumi wanted to be in the future. She shrugged. "I have to work at taking pictures, but I started doing it because I had an old camera and I thought it was fun. Years of practice lead to me being good, but it wasn't ever because I wanted to intentionally become a photographer. I mean, I could do it. But I don't look to the future a lot." She grinned. "The day is always too interesting, and you never know what you're going to get."
She watched as he walked on his hands around the place. "I don't think I could do that," she giggled. "I can barely do pull-ups. I do a mean somersault, though," she added, giggling.

It wasn't a tense situation at all between me and her, like two friends chatting the afternoon away as the sun began to go lower and lower making the characteristic setting of wading against the background. "I will try my best to, no guarantees but I won't slouch of my training." Expressing with great serenity and effortlessly spoken values, it took no turn at all that I would become friends with her. The rhythm was right.
My right arm rose. Stepping forward slower as I thought back to a time when I was but a small lad, thinking towards what could have been the beginning. But I couldn't remember it, why did I want to run so much? What was with me stepping into the world where speed was everything? Was it truly that far back, as I took my first steps and became that speed junky... My steps became solid again, watching my right hand, clenching it into a fist. "I don't know... all I knew was that I had to become faster... and then I started entering races developing my run into one of perfection..." I really couldn't remember at all, it was a blur. These legs always knew that the wind was only the beginning, the sky was next.
"Seems like a sensible dream I'd say." The eyes I made towards the camera and then towards her were magnified into a calm and "warm" gaze. I pressed my hand on the camera. "You do something you love, you do something you have a passion for, as long as it isn't inhumane I'll always be rooting for you." Grasping the camera in my hand, I gazed at her with it against my face and eye, I started to take various pictures of her, my body moved quickly around her using my "super" speed to maneuver back and forth around her.
Holding the camera firm after my mock photo session, I pressed it back into her hand. "When is your birthday?" I became interested in her now, not the weird kind of stalker with a crush interest but the, I was enticed with her dreams and demeanor deal. A wind had blown as I stopped. "Hm..." I closed my eyes beginning to think about it, the situation had led me to becoming concerned about her.
As I landed against the top of the wall, my hands slid against the top of the gravel more, pushing forward. She said she could only do somersaults. "I've been doing this stuff my entire life mostly, I've been called "Daredevil Chi", because I do things that most people don't like to do like dangerous acrobatics, running on rooftops and parkour."
So... I was basically an adrenaline junkie. Weird but it fit like a glove. My body twisted in mid-air, back and forth as I pressed further and further against the gate spinning like a humanoid tornado. Really it was just me adjusting m weight with every turn, it was something a gymnast could do. Though I wasn't a gymnast and had natural balance due to my practice being parkour. My body flew through the air as I pushed off the wall and landed next to Mayumi once again staring at her.
"It's a weird thing, but I just love being free all around. My freedom is this entire playground, the world is my playground and I'm just a kid having fun, ya know..." I shrugged crossing my arms. "Anyways, it seems to be getting late, lets hurry and get to the Ichiraku Ramen." We have been talking for minutes upon minutes and it was fall so the nights usually came quicker.
